Voice Message: Kitchen Quote

Marco can start the kitchen on Monday the 14th, and quoted $9,200 for the units, fitting and electrics. The worktop is extra, and he needs your choice and a 20% deposit before he orders anything.

Key points

  • Work starts Monday the 14th and takes about two weeks.
  • $9,200 covers the units, fitting and electrics.
  • The worktop is extra: about $1,400 for quartz, $450 for laminate.
  • The wall behind the sink needs replastering once the old tiles come off.

Out of WhatsApp in a few taps

Touch and hold the voice message, tap Forward, then the share button in the corner, and choose Tapescript. Open Tapescript and it picks the message up and starts writing.

If you use more than one language, it asks which one the message is in first. A voice note in Portuguese comes back in Portuguese, and you can translate it into English afterwards.

Three things to do, not six minutes to replay

Marco the builder records six minutes from his van: the start date, the price, two worktop options, a deposit, and something about cupboards. Tapescript gives you the summary and the three things he needs from you, with the deadline beside the ones that have one.

Tick them off in the note as you go.

Action items

  • Tell Marco quartz or laminate · Friday
  • Send the 20% deposit
  • Empty the kitchen cupboards · before the 14th

Was it ninety-two hundred?

Every line of the transcript has its time beside it. Tap the one with the price and hear Marco say it again, instead of dragging through the whole message to find it.

Voice Message: Kitchen Quote

  1. Hi, it’s Marco. Sorry, long one, I’m in the van.
  2. Good news: we can start on Monday the fourteenth.
  3. For everything we talked about, units, fitting, the electrics, it’s ninety-two hundred.
  4. The worktop is on top of that. Quartz is about fourteen hundred, laminate maybe four-fifty.
  5. Let me know which by Friday so I can order it.
  6. And I need the twenty percent deposit before I order anything.
  7. Oh, and the cupboards need to be empty before we start.

Good to know

  1. Not only WhatsApp. Telegram, Mail, Files: if an app can share an audio or video file, the share sheet offers Tapescript.
  2. Several at once. Share a few messages together and each one becomes its own note.
  3. It needs a connection. The writing happens on our servers, so a voice note shared on a plane waits until you’re back online.
  4. The audio isn’t kept. It’s sent over an encrypted connection, written down, then discarded. The note is saved in your own iCloud.

Questions people ask

How do I turn a WhatsApp voice message into text?

Touch and hold the message, tap Forward, tap the share button and choose Tapescript. Open Tapescript and the transcript, a summary and any action items arrive in a new note.

Doesn’t WhatsApp transcribe voice messages itself?

It can show a transcript for some languages if you turn it on in WhatsApp’s settings. Tapescript adds a summary and action items, works in over 60 languages, keeps the note after the chat is gone, and lets you search every voice note you’ve brought in.

Will the person who sent it know?

No. Sharing a voice message to another app on your phone doesn’t send anything to the chat.

What if the voice note is in another language?

Choose the language it’s in and the transcript comes back in that language, in its own script. Then translate the note into yours: any of over 60 languages.

Can I transcribe a Telegram voice message too?

Yes, if Telegram lets you share or save that message’s audio. Any app that can share an audio file works the same way.

Every voice note, read, not replayed.

Put your phone down at your next lecture or meeting, and pick up the notes when it ends.
